NCEA joins Minster Trust for Education

Dear parents, guardians, students and other members of the school community, 

Many of you know that in 2011/12, as part of an ever‐changing educational landscape, our school became  ’The National Church of England Academy’ and began a new chapter by entering into a partnership with  our friends at Tuxford Academy, known as DALP (Diverse Academies Learning Partnership), now Diverse  Academies.  

Being part of DALP has seen our school community develop important relationships and friendships with  other academies across the East Midlands and continue on our mission to improve all aspects of our school  from teaching and learning to how we operate the business elements of our school. 

In 2019, the directors and governors of our academy decided that our students, whose interests they  safeguard and represent, would be best served by terminating our relationship with Diverse Academies  and pursuing a new collaboration by becoming part of a different multi‐academy trust. 

In the Spring of last year, following a period of extensive exploration, research and due diligence, a formal  recommendation was made to the academy directors to join MITRE (Minster Trust for Education), based in  Eakring, North Nottinghamshire. MITRE is a comparatively small, Christian multi‐academy trust consisting  of several primary schools and one other secondary school, The Minster School in Southwell. This  recommendation was accepted and approved by the board of directors and governors. 

Like any multi‐academy trust, the purpose of the organisation is to provide the students with the best  value education possible through the sharing and pooling of resources, best practices, support and skills  across all aspects of academy life including business operations, IT and most importantly, driving school  improvement. 

MITRE seeks to do this in line with the Christian principles by which it operates, which align perfectly with  the ethos that we are so proud of here at National. As of January 1st 2021, National Church of England  Academy officially became part of MITRE. 

It’s important that we recognise and offer our thanks to our friends and colleagues at Diverse Academies  for their support and wish them the very best as they too continue their exciting journey as a large and  ever growing multi‐academy trust.  

Many of you know that our neighbours up the road at Holgate Academy are part of Diverse Academies and  despite our departure from that trust, I know that our students and staff will still enjoy some fabulous  collaborations, not least at the excellent Hucknall Sixth Form Centre which continues to go from strength  to strength.

Joining MITRE offers our school community an incredibly exciting opportunity to collaborate and partner  with, amongst other others, another outstanding secondary school that shares our fundamental values,  and equally importantly, a desire to see our students achieve and reach their absolute potential during  their time with us. To say that we as a board of governors are excited to see what the next chapter of our  school’s story holds is an understatement and we very much look forward to sharing that journey with you.
