Face Coverings
Latest update on face coverings
Dear Parent /Carer,
You will be aware that in recent days the government have changed their advice on the wearing of face coverings for schools in our region. They are now saying that face coverings should be worn in schools in specific areas as we are now in the ‘High’ category. This is except for in classrooms. For National Church of England Academy, this will mean that after half-term (From 2nd November 2020) all students and staff at National will be required to wear a face covering when moving around the site and for indoor communal areas – not classrooms.
This is the statement directly from the government this week which we are following:
“Where pupils in year 7 and above are educated, face coverings should be worn by adults and pupils when moving around the premises, outside of classrooms, such as in corridors and communal areas where social distancing cannot easily be maintained” – DFE Oct 2020
Students at National Church of England Academy will be asked to wear face coverings in the following situations:
- When travelling to or from school using either public or school buses;
- When moving from one lesson to the next around the site including when arriving;
- When queuing to purchase food at lunch or break.
We will not be wearing face coverings in classrooms and it is not necessary when in year group bubble areas outside. Staff will also have a set of rules for the wearing of face coverings.
The school is not able to provide face coverings for students and therefore we ask that each child comes to school with a plain face covering and a plastic bag to keep it in when not in use. Your help in informing your child how to safely use the face covering will be of great help and we will reinforce this message with our arrangements in school.
It is appreciated that a very small number may not be able to wear a face covering - if this is the case for your child please contact the relevant pastoral Head of Year.
With thanks in advance for your support.
Mr Martin Brailsford
Principal at National Church of England Academy
